Club History

The Rotary Club of Caloundra Pacific was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Caloundra. It was chartered on the 3rd September 1977 with a membership of 20. The Charter President was Ken Crocker and the Charter Secretary was Harry Spackman. In 1978/79 our President was Frank Natoli with his Secretary Harry Spackman. In 1979/80 (Rotary's 75th year) with President Ron Zahnleiter and Secretary Percy Taft the membership at 30/6/79 was 32. The club's charter was presented by D.G. Jack Stephensen, Mike Elfis being his special representative. It got off to a good start with the presentation of a cheque for $200 to the Ambulance Superintendent in its first year. This was for manikin training (mouth to mouth resuscitation and cardiac compression). In January, 1978 the Club presented a cheque for $1300 to the President of the Sub-Normal Children's Association for a bus. The club increased its membership by 40% in its first year. Charter member Mike Elfis was nominated and accepted for D.G. in 1984/85. The only CalPac member to date to achieve this honour. A Tourist Information Centre was designed and built on Caloundra Road by members during the 1984/85 year when Aldo Bevaqua was President. Club members staffed the centre until it was handed over to the local council. It has since been a great help to tourism, an asset to the council and the promotion of Rotary. The club lifted their Rotary Foundation amount to 700% and bestowed a Paul Harris Fellowship on Mike Elfis, presented by D.G. Reg Pain at a very successful function attended by five P.D.G's. The 3H (Health, Hunger and Humanity) project is 100%. Concerning FAIM, Greg Martin and his friend Bruce Tweedale worked on a building project in P.N.G.. $538 was raised to pay their fares. This was the beginning of many trips by members to P.N.G. and the Islands. Part of District 9600 covers P.N.G and the Solomon Islands. The club has been involved in conducting Art Shows, Rock Concerts, Fireworks Displays, annually decorating a Norfolk Island pine tree on Bulcock Beach as a giant Christmas Tree with coloured lights, International dinner dances, race days at Corbould Park Raceway, golf days at Caloundra Golf Club, box trailer raffles with Christmas gifts each year .Participation in IFCR (International Federation of Flying Rotarians), including IFFR flyin and IFGR tournaments.
